  What is the problem with new age stuff?

  when i speak to some christians they seem to have a fear of things new age related.. i was speaking to three christians today who i thought are very rational.

  i tolf them how my jw friend says the only good thing about getting older was that we are closer to the end of the world.

  their response was well the bible says the world is gonna end.. then they started in about oprah endorsing these new age books ( a new earth by eckhart tolle) and how it is so wrong for her to do that.. i was giggling and i said yeah well some people think that obama is the antichrist lol.

  It scares a lot of Baptists, too. They flock to Pagan Pride Day in the park, form a small circle and pray, then go among us pagans and distribute literature and read scriptures from the Bible. Many of us drive them away like they are flies. They aren't allowed to infiltrate our activities any more. They sure are pests!

  Do JWs really believe the end is near?

  or do they merely pay lip service to the idea?

  i have no doubt that some of them sincerely believe.

  but when i was a kid, growing up in the '80s, i didn't know of a single witness, myself included, who didn't believe the end was close.

  I suppose a few are skeptical. I was when I realized that my parents were not even supposed to start kindergarten before the end came.

  I remember them saying that the good news doesn't have to literally be preached to every single person. It just has to be preached in most places. Those people who have not heard it didn't deserve it.

  they told my husband they wanted to meet... tonight.... just what i want to do on a friday night... we just had a sheparding call a month ago with another elder.

  i said to my husband, "why don't they just invite the entire body over to the house?

  so hubby told them that.

  I don't allow JW's into my home, and they know it, too. I come out to talk to them while closing the door behind me. It may be rude, but my ritual tools are not for their eyes.

  most random scripture citation EVER

  did you ever notice, particularly in unimportant filler articles, that sometimes the writers of the society's publications cited scriptures which had very little to do with the subject at hand?

  i'm not talking about the misleading use of scriptures, that is, when they would perpetrate amazing feats of eisegesis.

  i'm talking about when they cited scriptures just because they felt like the sentence needed to end with a citation.

  You're right. I didn't do it 100 times to see what percentage of the time it went down and how many times it went up. I'm a bad scientist. That BA is not worth the paper it's written on, damn the thing anyway!

  i went to the local post office today.. a car pulled up with 2 men and a young woman inside.. i smiled and said, "hi.

  " the man who was driving waved, backed out of the parking space and moved 3 spaces down towards the next business in the strip mall.. the driver walked over and said, "i see you are still alive.".

  i said, "yes, god has kept me alive for the last 3 years.

  some things we'd rather just forget , i'm sure, but some things helped us think on our feet, quickly in helping others .

  The problem is they apparently are incapable of thinking outside the Bible box. Everything you say must go along with the Bible and the Bible only or you are wrong. Non-sequitors and false dilemmas.
